Everyday, millions of people enter and exit the doors of public libraries all across the country that are providing FREE services to their communities. Theses services can include, job assistance, homework help, genealogy resources, public computer access and Internet & WiFi services.
With the current economic situation that our nation is in, libraries are being utilized more than ever by people to help them weather it through this storm. The down side to all of this is that libraries are not immune from the economic crisis and are facing very serious budget cuts and even in some cases facility closures. But there is some hope on the horizon in the form of library advocates and library friends who believe strongly in keeping these precious buildings alive and well for many years to come.
When you become a Friend of your local library, you help see to it that many of the services and resources that are offered will continue to be available for years to come, and in most cases stay FREE of charge. Your support for your local library also means that your library has a voice – a voice that resounds to representatives, senators and lawmakers – that will help defend itself from seeing budget cuts, service and resource reductions and fee implementations just to name a few.
Remember, it is ultimately up to YOU, The Friend, to help keep your library moving forward and meet the needs of your community, one page at a time!
